✨ Play, reading and early-years connection

Geraldton Community Toy Library

Based in Wonthella, the toy library offers lending and play resources for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and children in the early years. Most toys are aimed at children under eight, although families with children of all ages and abilities are welcome, as are grandparents, extended-family carers and visitors. Members may borrow up to six toys for three weeks, with roster and non-roster membership options available.

Geraldton Regional Library – Kids Programs

Young children can enjoy language, stories and shared reading through Rhyme Time for babies aged 0–2 and Story Time for pre-school-aged children. Better Beginnings reading packs and themed Discovery Backpacks are available through the junior area, while changing school-holiday activities appear on the library’s events calendar.

Child and Parent Centre – Rangeway

Located at Rangeway Primary School and managed by Ngala, this free centre supports parents, carers and young children through weekly playgroups, parenting programs, and maternal and child health services. 🎉 Activities for school-aged children and teenagers

City of Greater Geraldton – Youth Programs and School Holiday Program

School-aged children and young people can take part in changing council activities spanning music, sport, art, leadership and employment skills. Programs include Battle of the Bands, Give it a Go, Passport 2 Employment and the Revolve Skate Series. A mix of free and paid activities is offered during each school-holiday period, so families should check the individual program for ages, bookings and costs. Geraldton PCYC

Geraldton PCYC in Wonthella combines recreation with youth engagement. Available programs include boxing and safeSPACE™, where young people can connect with qualified youth workers while joining recreational, cultural and developmental activities. Mullewa Youth Centre

For families in Mullewa, the youth centre provides an after-hours drop-in space for young people aged 10–17. Its activities include creative workshops and school-holiday events such as discos and movie nights. Staff can also connect young people with relevant support services.

Geraldton Aquarena – KidSport Regional Pools Program

Eligible children and young people aged 5–18 may apply for a seasonal pool pass through the KidSport Regional Pools Program. Applications require a completed form and a copy of a concession card. Watch Around Water rules apply: children under five must stay within arm’s reach of a responsible adult, while children under 12 must remain within an adult’s line of sight.

🧩 Development, therapy and mental health

WACHS Midwest Child Development Services

Children with developmental delay or disorders can access team-based assessment and therapy through the Geraldton-based service at Geraldton Health Campus. Its Midwest catchment includes Kalbarri, Northampton, Geraldton, Mullewa, Greenough, Dongara, Mingenew, Morawa, Perenjori and Yalgoo. Families can contact Allied Health Reception on 08 9956 2204.

All Star Therapies

Children aged 0–16 with a diagnosed disability or developmental delay or disorder can access speech pathology, occupational therapy and therapy-assistant services. Support may take place at the Geraldton clinic, at home, at school or day care, or in community settings. Functional capacity assessments, group programs and workshops for parents, schools and day-care providers are also offered. Visits elsewhere in the Midwest and Murchison may be discussed, and referrals are currently accepted.

Geraldton Kids Physiotherapy

Paediatric physiotherapy is available for children from infancy through to 18. Areas of support include developmental delays, gait concerns, recovery after surgery, disability-related mobility and equipment needs. Appointments may be provided at home, school, community locations and selected sporting venues, with hydrotherapy offered at Geraldton Aquarena.

AbleKids Therapy Services

Children and young people can access an interdisciplinary team offering occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, psychology and dietetics. Services are available at the clinic and in schools, day-care centres and community venues. Telehealth provides another option, including for families living in remote parts of the Midwest.

Midwest Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

CAMHS provides specialist assessment, care planning, treatment and referral coordination for infants, children and young people up to 17 whose difficulties suggest a serious mental disorder or a high risk of one. Families, carers and young people can make referrals, as can GPs, schools and other services. The Geraldton clinic operates from the Community Health Building at Geraldton Health Campus, with visiting services across the Midwest.

❤ Maternal care and support after violence or crisis

Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service – Maternal Health

GRAMS provides holistic health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including maternal care delivered through its midwives. Support includes checks for parent and baby, tests and investigations, vaccinations, prescriptions, and appointments with a GRAMS GP or obstetrician. Desert Blue Connect – Children’s Counselling

Free counselling is available in Geraldton for children who may have experienced sexual abuse, family violence or related wellbeing concerns. A Child Counsellor provides child-centred play therapy, alongside consultation and practical guidance for parents and carers. Enquiries can be made on 08 9964 2742.

Desert Blue Connect – Family Violence Counselling and Advocacy Service

Individuals and families, including children, can receive counselling, support and advocacy where family violence has occurred or may occur. The service supports Geraldton and the Mid West and accepts self-referrals as well as referrals from agencies, Police and the Department of Child Protection and Family Support. Contact 08 9964 2742.

Chrysalis House Women’s Refuge

Desert Blue Connect provides crisis accommodation for women, with or without children, who are escaping family violence or facing homelessness due to crisis. Stays of up to three weeks are supported by practical assistance, advocacy, referrals and child support, including crèche availability. Children and young people up to 18 can be accommodated, and the refuge is staffed around the clock. Phone 08 9964 2173.
